tourist FAQs

Kosher Food

You can find many Kosher products in Vons or Grocery Outlet. Vons has a small Kosher section, as well. There is no Kosher meat or chicken in Mammoth.

MIKVAh

The nearest Mikvah is in Reno, NV. We are working on building a local Mikva, please consider donating towards the Mikva fund. Regarding using hot springs or lakes for Mikva, the laws are complicated and it’s preferable to use a real Mikva.

Yosemite

Mammoth is a really close drive to Yosemite and it’s a beautiful park to visit. It is important to keep these things in mind:

  1. Yosemite Valley is halfway between Mammoth and Fresno. Check this map to see.

  2. While the road from Fresno to Yosemite is open year round, the road from Mammoth is CLOSED in the winter (sometimes the road doesn’t open until July!).

  3. Before calling us about Shabbat or Kosher food for your Yosemite trip, figure out which direction you’re coming from and which Chabad is closer to you. In the winter, you CANNOT access Yosemite from Mammoth.

  4. If you’re going to be coming from the Fresno side, you can be in touch with Chabad of Fresno.
